About Grameen Foundation
Grameen Foundation's mission is to enable the poor, especially the poorest, to create a world without poverty.
Inspired by the work of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, Grameen Foundation was created in 1997 to help share the Grameen philosophy and accelerate the impact of microfinance on the world's poorest people. Grameen Foundation replicates the success of Grameen Bank internationally by supporting microfinance institutions that embody its vision and values.
With tiny loans, financial services and technology, we help the poor, mostly women; start self-sustaining businesses to escape poverty. Our global network of 58 microfinance institution (MFI) partners, including our Growth Guarantee partners, has touched more than 45 million people in 23 countries. Our partners reach 9 million clients, and in addition, we introduced and now sustain technology initiatives (Mifos and Village Phone) in Cambodia, Cameroon, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, bringing our total country outreach to 28.
International Voluntary Service Activities
Bankers without Borders®, Grameen Foundation's volunteer initiative, is a global reserve corps of more than 500 business professionals and retirees from a variety of industries who contribute their time, skills, and experience to support microfinance and technology. These volunteers work to change lives and enable the poor - especially the poorest - to create a world without poverty.
Volunteer projects are diverse in terms of length, skills and expertise required, and location. Projects take place here in the U.S., overseas, and remotely.
Individuals interested in volunteering their expertise should complete the Bankers without Borders® application and submit their resume. Once approved, you become part of our reserve corps of volunteers, and gain access to:
