About EnterpriseWorks/VITA

EnterpriseWorks/VITA (EWV) is a private, nonprofit, international development organization incorporated in Washington, DC. For the last 25 years, EWV has been combating poverty by helping small producers and other entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses that create jobs and increase productivity, market opportunities and incomes. EWV achieves this by expanding access to appropriate technologies, technical assistance, knowledge and finance.

International Voluntary Service Activities

EnterpriseWorks/VITA volunteers are experienced professionals from a variety of disciplines including agriculture, business development and credit, energy, environment, food processing, housing, information and communication technologies, transportation and water and sanitation. For the last 45 years, these talented men and women have helped EWV assist people and groups in the developing world in a variety of ways and have undertaken assignments that have varied dramatically in length and in scope. They have responded to more than 300,000 requests for technical assistance and information from developing countries and designed specialized communication systems to bridge the digital divide. They have provided valuable services in business development and microfinance, modernized factories, and designed and installed water and sanitation systems. They have also responded to the computerization needs of local governments and ministries in the developing world.

In the last twelve months, EWV has used dozens of US-based volunteers to respond to the information and technology needs of people and groups in developing countries. EWV has also used a select group of qualified volunteers to work on developing and testing communications technologies for use in remote and rural areas. Last but not least, the organization has used a couple of volunteer experts to do subsector analyses in developing countries to identify and design interventions that can remove impediments to economic growth.
