About California Technological Care (CTC)

CTC is an IRS 501(c) (3) tax-exempt public benefit organization that fights information poverty and eWaste pollution through scalable programs.

We recycle computers and then send them to disadvantaged schools, orphanages, and non-government organizations in several countries.

We also provide technical training and give students and volunteers a chance to learn IT skills.

Our technical training programs in the Philippines have graduated more than 400 students.

CTC is a positive catalyst for change. We believe tackling daunting problems by using hard-nosed approaches to alleviate information poverty and eWaste pollution improves communities.

International Voluntary Service Activities

The CTC Technology Care Mission, launched on July 2005, is a community service mission that allows CTC volunteers to attend the opening of several CTC sponsored community computer learning centers and includes setting up the computers, teaching, and mentoring. There were 20 CTC volunteers who traveled in the Philippines who undertook the initial mission.

Mission activities include computer technology training, mentoring, and providing entrepreneurship training to help people succeed in the business world by developing the skills required to start and own a business. In addition, CTC volunteers will mentor out-of-school youth, disadvantaged individuals, and an indigenous group (Aetas) in the provinces of Pampanga and Tarlac.

Other than the volunteers from CTC-USA, there were about 50 volunteers from our local affiliate, CTC Foundation Philippines who provide support to our local programs.

In the next twelve months, we anticipate sending 25 volunteers to the Philippines.

Volunteer Profile Summary
Our international volunteer staff must possess management and technology skills to undertake the organization's three divisions' goals and objectives: The Computer Learning Center division has primary responsibility for working directly with prospective and existing partners in defining their objectives and tailoring responsive options and solutions. This division is organized on a geographic basis to focus expertise on the particular environment within each region. Each area can draw on the resources within the division to address client issues. The eWaste Recycling division has primary responsibility for working directly with businesses, residents, and local governments as they search for ways to reuse, recycle, or properly dispose of computers, monitors, copiers, fax machines, printers, televisions, and other electronic items that have become "obsolete" in the eyes of consumers. To meet this challenge, our eWaste Recycling division is initiating electronic product collection programs and innovative new uses for the old equipment. The Internal Support division has primary responsibility for overall administration and finance. This division is organized to focus expertise on project management, development, marketing, information systems, and program evaluation. The resource center is an additional access point to professional online services. The resource center also maintains a comprehensive, historical profile of our clients and the service we provide.
