About Blue Kitabu

Blue Kitabu believes that education is a basic human right and that every child throughout the world deserves the opportunity to attend school so they can brighten their prospects for the future. We also believe that education is the best way to come together as human beings to promote peace and understanding. By providing children across the world with schools, scholarships and other educational necessities, we can achieve our goals.

In regions that simply do not have educational facilities, Blue Kitabu will work with local volunteers and community leaders to construct proper infrastructure. In regions that have the infrastructure, but not proper educators, Blue Kitabu intends to not only help find the best educators possible, but also to work with existing educators to improve their teaching effectiveness, curriculum and pay. In regions that simply need educational tools, Blue Kitabu intends to help find the proper equipment with which teachers can administer lessons. Regarding parents who simply cannot afford to send their children to school, we hope to develop the best way to work with parents to send their children to school and ensure their success.

Blue Kitabu will work to seek and assist children who are orphaned or who do not have a reliable parental or guardian system. With these children the organization will first ensure that their basic needs are met and second ensure that they are able to attend and succeed in school. This may include simply helping orphanages and making them sustainable. We will accomplish our objectives in a sustainable manner, with community involvement and without attaching foreign cultural biases or importance that may not fit well with the religion, tradition or culture of the communities where we will work.

International Voluntary Service Activities

Our recent volunteer activities include professionals who are working on our education curriculum and teacher trainings. We have recruited volunteers from the Boston MA area to help us formulate the best strategies for helping teachers be better teachers. We have also formulated supplemental curriculum for classrooms in addition to what is mandated by governments abroad.

We also have a current volunteer who is working to build gardens at our school sites that are sustainable all year long. This will meet our goal of allowing schools to provide lunches for a free or reduced price.

We expect to deploy between 15 - 25 volunteers in the next twelve months. We expect to begin building schools in 2009 and training teachers in Rwanda in full force. For this, we need education professionals to assist us, engineers to assist with building our schools (though construction will be by local contractors) and other interested students and professionals to help with curriculum and our goals.
